Encouraging next generation of engineers is in the DNA of our business

As a family run company M&N Electrical & Mechanical Services Ltd is committed to nurturing the talents of the next generation of engineers, exemplified in this case by long-standing team member Dave Corps and his son Ben.

Dave and Ben Corps2

Lead mechanical engineer Dave joined M&N in 2008 and alongside his extensive operational duties has been key in assisting with the training of our apprentices from Weymouth College. All apprentices joining the company on the day release scheme have worked alongside Dave, and as one of 4 currently at Portland, son Ben is clearly reaping the rewards of his fathers extensive engineering experience.

Ben has been with us since 2015 and has a year left to run on his apprenticeship with an eye to joining the company when he graduates. Whilst Weymouth College have no off-the-shelf package to prepare students as ‘Mechanical Fitters’ we have created a bespoke programme best suited to prepare students keen on a career in this area.

During term time Ben is very much workshop based but has enjoyed gaining additional experience across different areas of the business in his holidays.

M&N’s commitment to corporate social responsibility is at the heart of our work with Weymouth College and we currently employ 4 apprentices and 1 trainee at our Portland headquarters, alongside 2 further apprentices in Dumfriesshire.

Whilst Dave is currently undertaking further training in both site supervision and site management we fully expect his skills with our apprentices to see him take on a more rounded mentoring role within the business.

Thanks to the likes of Dave, we’re proud to be encouraging the next generation of engineers in the wastewater sector and look forward to welcoming talented individuals like Ben to the company.
